In art, children talk about an artist, a piece of artwork, a medium or an event, which ties in history, math, science and language arts. Physical education gives each student an outlet for self-expression and creativity, and a safe place to build confidence while learning to control gross-motor movement and coordination.
Art and physical education are part of the school day here, alongside religion, technology, music and library classes, with Spanish for Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten. In art, children talk about an artist and a medium, then work with their hands. That builds fine motor skills and connects art to history, math, science and language arts. Physical education gives each child a safe place to move, play and build confidence.
You notice the art and movement at home. A child holds a crayon differently after weeks of drawing. They climb the stairs with more control. They tell you what happened in a book you did not read to them.
